Theosophical Society in Detroit
The Theosophical Society in Detroit was chartered as Brotherhood Lodge of the Theosophical Society by Annie Besant in 1916. Members' meetings were held on Tuesday evening and public meetings on Friday. We presume that regular meetings were disrupted by war and other disasters, but, over the years the devoted members of the Lodge were able to maintain their spiritual link and continue to meet. Recently during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lodge held public presentations on Zoom.
We are grateful to the many members, too numerous to name, who came before us and shared their time and energy so that we now have the opportunity to benefit from the Ageless Wisdom teachings and share them with others.
The Theosophical Society in Detroit is dedicated to raising consciousness about theosophical concepts and to provide programs and guidance to all who are interested in living a spiritual life.
The Theosophical Society in Detroit is a local lodge of the worldwide society represented in 70 countries with headquarters in Chennai, India which was first started by H. P. Blavatsky and Colonel Henry S. Olcott in 1875 in New York. The word Theosophy derives from Greek roots meaning "divine wisdom", a body of knowledge that tells us about our place in the universe and why the world is the way it is. It helps answer difficult questions such as: what is the purpose of the universe? Is there a God ?
The Society seeks to promote the practical realization of the universal brotherhood of humanity without any distinctions, to encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science, and to investigate unexplained laws of nature and the powers latent in the human being. We are a community of seekers, together we share, support, learn, and grow in our humanity to help improve the world.
